What is the best anti-virus for a netbook?

I’ve recently bought a netbook and I am trying to look for the most lightweight things to put on my netbook so that I can get the most out of my battery. Can you recommend some anti-virus programs that are lightweight as well as some other programs?

I would like to buy a netbook instead of a laptop (cheaper and more portable). But I am worried that it wont be a good choice for word processing and my music. Does anyone here use a netbook for Word and iTunes, and is it adequate? Any brand/model recommendations? Thanks a lot for the input.
You should try SSuite Office for a free office suite. They have a whole range of office suites that are free for download.
Their software also don’t need to run on Java or .NET, like so many open source office suites, so it makes their software very small and efficient.

I recently purchased a Toshiba Netbook and for the most part it plays media files fine. I also obtained an external dvd drive (Samsung) for use primarily with audio and visual media. However DVDs will play, but with no sound. CDs play fine, as does streaming video from Netflix or iTunes. What is causing this and what are the potential solutions? Thanks.
try downloading the program SoundMAX the same thing happened to me but when i got that program it fixeed it

Laptops are "little desktops" where you can bring to the airport,mall,cafe,etc. and Netbooks are designed for browsing. Although that laptops are much more powerful for netbooks, but the big diff in here is laptops are used to do your work and netbooks are used to browse the internet(open facebook,twitter,amazon,etc)
Netbooks are cheaper than laptops because the tech specs are also very different.

I practically "live" on the ‘net. I have a wireless network at the house (and business), but I am focus on the home right now. I currently use both Firefox and Safaria. What do you think about Flock? I am 26 years old. I am going to buy my 77 year old father a netbook on after-Christmas sale. What would be the best browser for him? All he wants to do is online banking, e-mailing, and Skype.

what are the limitations of a netbook?
can i playback movies? listen to songs? play some games?
all the net books are pretty even, i have read that HP has larger keyboard, but i don’t like netbooks, they cant do as much as a smart-phone, but if you are fully aware of the limitations of a net book and it still seems to be the right fit for you, you will need to go to a retail store and try them out for typing comfort

Do you think that a netbook could handle my task just as well as my old laptop, or even better? Or if it is slower, is it slow enough to where I would be banging my head while I try to switch windows?

I am running a quick test now to see the RAM usage with a lot of these programs running.
Usually my laptop only uses 1.6 GB of ram though.
Here it is with all of those programs running at once: only about 2.1 GB…. I think I can find a netbook with that much RAM.
So I guess the main thing is the processor?
I’ve had a netbook for about a month now and I’ve been mostly satisfied with its performance. I personally run MS Office, iTunes, Digsby and Firefox all the time. any thing over and hour i would remove it from the case
It just started re booting about a month ago. I have windows xp installed not W7? Why would it be doing this all of the sudden after having this netbook for 7 months
Did you install any software, driver, or update windows anytime? If so then that may be causing the error and int hat case you can try to do a system restore to a previous state before the problem occurred. If it is a certain software than just boot into safe mode and uninstall the software.

As far as i know i think the maximum ram is 1gb? is this correct? or will i be able to uprate it to 2gb?
Also, the battery life is only 4hrs maximum, will i be able to buy a better battery for it (6-7hrs)

you are correct, the max ram on this model is 1 gb, i checked the sony web site for this model so you wont be able to upgrade the ram
